Lost

Lost

Waves beat on the shores of jagged beaches
Like the sound of drums
Like strings of the finest hair screech and scratch at the rocks
The gulls’ hoarse from calling to the sea
Rapid beating of hearts in tune with cries of a vessel

Collision
Celestial fires of the empyrean region
Peek from the grayness of an obsidian sky
Molten sounds wrap the borders of the forsaken boat
The waters calm, whispering their doom

The storm passes
Leaving a man stranded
On the soft shores, cloud-like sand
He bawls and bellows for ghosts long dead
Panic escapes his throat
Replies cease
Corrupted silences fall

Cries erupt like magma escaping
From a stone prison
Mourning comes
Day breaks
Nothing but the tempo of the
Waves fill his mind

Hush, Hush

Memories plague his world
Cold, Frozen like the wasteland of a Lost Kingdom
Then a glimmer of hope
Children
Wife
“I am coming home”

Imprints disappear from the pearlescent sands
As the green waters wash them away
Wisps sheppard him to their haven
Rays of colored dust billow around their figures

Whispers of Wisps
Prophecy of a Lost Soul
To be Found

A key
A key to home rests in a single challenge
A dual
A dual with champion of Nemesis

Metal clash and clang
Porous liquid seeps through torn fabric
And with the hand that strikes
On the Fates’ threads

The man stands, soles deep within
Dead flesh
The Earth cries
Victory

The Gatekeeper walks, treads on the ground
The man acquires the key
The key to open the Heavenly Gates

They appear, Wife and Children
Radiant innocence follows their path to

Father and Husband

Love of Muses

Love of Muses

Light tap of keys resonate and vibrate
The sounds of a stringed instrument, accented with ebony
High-pitched, delicate,
Barely audible but very much pleasing to the ear
His hands glide gracefully,
Occasionally there was a stumble a beautiful stumble,
Perfect in its imperfection
Flustered, he made it all the more precious
Much joy filled this heart of mine, laughter nearly escaped my lips

I could hear his heart-beat that beats for another
Though well I know even as my heart danced toward his,
He would never take my hand
His voice breaks the sound barrier of my heart,
Yet his heart is but a whisper
I sat there, afraid to disrupt such beauty but he seemed to be in a distant land,
Conquering each note with superior dominance
The whispering rasps of battle dance onto the walls and make their descent to my ear,
Then heart
I sat next to the player of vibrance and glory,
Afraid that my presence would compel him to abruptly stop such divine meditation

I disappeared from his sight
While my hand lay on the device vibrating life seeped into my fingertips
His music like drums beating on crags of rock,
penetrating the sediment’s hard surface, exposing the inner hearth of my heart

I wanted nothing more than to give him music of my voice,
I desired to manipulate words on my tongue along with the taps and rings of his Muses
I wish for this moment to end soon, for my heart shall break as each note is caressed

Am I in love?
Why him?
Why this stern look of poised anger give me comfort?
Why someone who would never love the Muse of my heart?

Love like the shadow of the Night
Subtle, paces quick
Like flames clinging to a dying wick of wax

Young love
Dies young

Rose Red

Rose Red
Awaiting for a love,
Eternal acceptance,
Waiting for creature pure.
Pure in heart and mind
Pearlescent.
Infinite in possibilities.
A time when mortality can be forgotten,
When mortality becomes immortal.
A Voice heard, muffled
One voice
Then louder
Approaching closer
Closer to the edge of this
frozen wasteland
I cry for help!
Reaching towards powerful hands
Trying to break the icy surface
To save me from drowning in a Sea of Tears,
He did come
To heal, he did come
To cut away the Briars of Red
Revealing my wounded heart
To cradle a crimson rose in her hands
Sweetly cooing,
Caring for it
Tending to the Endless Garden that guarded my heart
With a thumb of green, healing touch

A man that may,
Across the bay
A woman full of hope
In time shall we elope?

Who shall own my red rose?

The Curse of Long-Distance Dating (ow my heart) (i wrote this in teenage angst, please don't hold it against me)

Love like the Shadows of the Night
The ache of heart, sweet and poisonous
Infectious, death lips doth taste so sweet
Burning of my breast, melts the soil I walk upon
Molten Flames trail behind my steps
Like cyanide, you are my release and my end
Come find me, oh heart-piercing dagger!
Chase me, Mercury! And take this glass rose
With jolting hands, you pierce the veil
Empty longing for warm
Flesh to touch
Craving for brief caresses across hills of skin
Longing to be trapped in bars of flesh,
To be imprisoned in your arms
Night falls to spread across lands
Sweet words you whisper,
Travel across the lands to mine’s ear
And with these songs
I lay awake in blankets of warmth
Dreaming
Ethereal love travels like the gold blacksmiths beat
Of my mind you reside, images of
Fantastical adventures that would not be lived
Infect the crevices of my being
One moment when love becomes pain,
It pumps like morphine in the blood
Vibrating muscles retract in spasms of joy
Sweet numbness
Wet hands, washed with water of the soul
And with sweet bliss that escapes your lips as
I meet them with mine
Light
Feathered
Ghostly
I am not there
But I am here
You are not here

But you are there

Teenage Break-Up Gone Poetic AF

Remorseless

Remorseless, unfeeling, indifferent towards the emotions of others
Nevermore did I feel compassion.
As Lady Macbeth prayed for Evil to possess her,
Evil already possessed me.
Hurt… compelled me to do so… Anger … then Revenge.
Waiting patiently, and then opportunity struck
Coaxing me to do the evil deed,
To murder a boy’s spirit as he had mine.

With the ‘other’ present I did what I wanted to do,
To state the truth he had forgotten;
The Evil Truth seeping out his subconscious
Hoarse with desperation

I answered the call,
Lifting the cloud of uncertainty
Calm collected was I;
Haven and Hearth, blood boiling in the hell I created
Burning  flesh and bone to ash
Equipped with a Mask of Innocence.
I, the puppet master, containing the storm in their hearts
With my claws,
Toying with their heart strings.

Calculating,
Cutting each one at the right moment,
Unfeeling, uncaring of their tears
Bathing me in success,
Triumph, satisfaction
Allowing their sadness to wash over
The shores of teenage infatuation

I watched,
Watched them drown in
Their own tears
The deed is done, my heart a fiery hearth, melting;
Yet there is uncertainty…
Why did I do it?
What was there to gain from their hurt?

I feel nothing, yet
Knowing he who is housed in a Putrid Palace of Potions,
attended by men in white and blue
Even as he attempted to end it all,
In sweet bliss of eternal rest
I feel nothing,
I see nothing
I hear nothing
Nothing...
Nothing...

I am full of joy

Mario the Idiot

Backstory: While searching through old data discs from back in the day, I found this story. Completely awestruck by the quality of this work (for my age at the time), and having no actual memory of writing it, I decided to salvage the text file and post it for all to see. The following was written on April 22, 2001 by my kid self. Minor edits have been made for consistency. Enjoy.

Mario the Idiot

a short story by
Jeremy Minney

All I have to say is-a Friday the 13th was-a NOT, I repeat, was-a NOT Good Friday. It-a was-a bad Friday! Let me-a tell-a you why...

One day, I was at my pad eating a Nutty Bar and watching Shroom News, when I heard a loud crash. It-a was the door. Somebody had knocked over my door. I was ready to fight, then I realized it was Luigi.

"Mario!" Luigi screamed, "Somethin' weird is-a happening!"

"Luigi, you idiot, you broke down the door!"

"No, Mario, you don't understand!"

"What do I not understand?! You broke the door!"

Luigi then whispered something into my ear. It-a is-a so horrifying, I cannot tell you what it-a is-a. Luigi and me headed out into the back yard to see the strangest thing ever. It's-a crazy Koopa Troopa.

"See, Mario? He's gone berserk!" Luigi said to-a me: Mario.

"HELP ME!! IT'S MY SHELL!! MY SHELL!! AIIIIEEEE!!" screamed the Koopa in agony as he bounced around. But near the Koopa, I saw a Shy Guy watching him. I walked over to him so I could ask-a him-a what-a was-a wrong-a with-a the-a Koopa-a.

"Hey, what's-a going on here?" I asked the Shy Guy.

"A Goomba got in his shell and is trying to eat him alive," replied the Shy Guy.

"Come on, Mario. Get the Goomba out!" Luigi asked of me with-a the tears in his eyes-a.

"No way! Me ain't touchin' that!" I yelled back.

After some arguing, I had not a choice but to help the Koopa. First, I tried jumping on it's-a shell.

"OW!" yelled the Koopa, "Don't jump on me!"

"Sorry," I said back with disappointment.

I then tried sticking my hand into the Koopa Shell, but I got bitten by the Goomba!

"OUCH!!!" I screamed and jumped back, falling onto Toad, squishing him like a pancake.

"OWWW!!" Toad cried as he had-a just entered the story.

"Mario, what the shrooms is going on?" Toad asked me, "Why are you playing with a Koopa?"

"I don't-a play with the Koopas, Toad," I explained, "This-a Koopa is-a being attacked by a Goomba!" I stood up and-a dusted myself off.

Now here's where I made my biggest mistake...

"Hey, I gots an idea!" I said as I pulled out a Bob-omb, lit it-a, and shoved it-a into the Koopa shell-a.

"AHHH!!" everyone screamed. Toad planted himself in the ground, Luigi hid behind a tiny rock, the Shy Guy was long gone, and I was just standing there like an idiot. The Bob-omb exploded and the Goomba fell to the grass-a. He had little X's on his eyes. And that's when I thought I-a saved the day.

"Problem solved!" I said and smiled, "Goomba dead!" But the Koopa... was-a not-a smiling. He got angry because I blew up his-a shell and attacked me while he was in-a his underwear.

"AHHH!! You be nasty!! Get-sa off-a me-a!!" I yelled as a squirmed around. I ran around in-a circles with a Koopa biting into my skull. I think I-a fainted after that because I-a lost so much blood.

* * *

I woke up in-a the hospital. When I opened my eyes, Luigi was staring at-a me-a. He looked like a bug, so I smacked him by accident.

"Ouch..." Luigi groaned.

"You're not-a bug," I said to him. I got out of the hospital bed and got my Mario outfit back on.
